In Carte Blanche on Sunday there was a small documentary about the ease and speed with which commuters from Pretoria the JSE in Sandton Johannesburg can travel with the Gautrain. A comparison between the travel time and expense of driving a Porche and traveling was done by train.
It seems that many people travel with the Gautrain on a daily basis, and this number will increase!

Better public transport will also deliver an opportunity for cheaper car insurance premiums!
The Department of Transport should be commended for the efforts to improve the public transport system in South Africa. Although many might consider the recent developments as small steps, they are urgently needed, in fact, and it could have a huge impact on road safety, the environment, economic development and financial stability.
Efforts to improve public transport is not only in line with the objectives, such as the decade of road safety, but also on reducing congestion on our roads and the emission of CO2 gases.
More and more South Africans by bus and train. Earlier today there was a very positive sign for the Gautrain project as thousands of commuters traveled the new route between Johannesburg and Hatfield. Last year I took the Bus Rapid Transit System [BRT] from the center of Johannesburg Soccer City and must admit is very impressed.

Irresponsible drinking is why car insurers hate weekends!
Some people fail miserably at the professional stay near alcohol. To care if they trash a few of us seem - but if it interferes with the ability to drive and endanger the lives of innocent road users, we have more than enough reason to be concerned! We've written a lot about the dangers of drinking and driving and the need for responsible use of alcohol, etc. Unfortunately, we have no precise statistics drunk driving just because we do not have enough road blocks to test regularly on driving ability. What we do know is that there are numerous late night driver crashes, especially on the weekends, where we smell alcohol do to the victims!

Does the National Road Traffic Act stipulate the amounts for traffic fines?

I had recently written a ticket telling me that I had the camera on the N1 caught out side Richmond Northern Cape, which is supposedly at a rate of not less than 101 kmph.in a 80 kmph. zone.The order R900. 00th Is this in accordance with the Highway Code? The ticket is not attached via a file. Sincerely,

The National Road Traffic Act does not shut penalty amounts for fines, because it does not manage itself. In the case of the jurisdiction where they were caught, the District Court will have set the fine amount. In the two areas where AARTO is in operation, the fine for the infringement R750, which is set to be slightly less than up to that magistrates have had.
Only when AARTO is rolled out nationwide, the quantum of punishment by a nationwide schedule may be prescribed. Until then, it remains the decision of the Municipal Council for the area in which they are incurred.
